GATSBY ERA BATH - OUR BATH DESIGNS
New homeowners moved into a wonderful older home with character but found the master bath to be lacking just that! It was very small and had straight forward toilet placement that would be difficult to change. We stepped in to create a functional space with a classy “Great Gatsby Era” vibe that the owners desired.
First we removed a radiator next to the toilet and replaced it with a heating mat under the floor. We then removed an unnecessary padded wall, adding more inches to the shower space. The homeowners wished to keep a tub in the shower so we used the remaining length to create a raised shelf. In the small 6’x 9’ room we utilized vanity space by using a single, larger sink with two faucets instead of traditional double sinks. A storage cubby is tucked under the shower shelf, and a luggage rack is used in the shower to provide towel storage. The toilet placement in front of a window couldn’t be moved economically so a simple dark wooden blind was used to give the feel of a more solid wall when closed.
To create a high class 1930s feel, rich and reflective materials were used. The vanity is dark walnut with a high sheen adorned with glass hardware. The shower tile is a dark large scaled hexagon paired with a classic white subway tile. The dark floor tiles are set in a herringbone pattern. The metal fixtures are a mix of gold and nickel tones. The brass luggage rack and vintage inspired lighting fixture add to the vibe. The ceiling is finished in rough cut pine from a local sawyer. This adds warmth and texture to the room. Small vintage and geometric accessories are used throughout the space giving a nod to a time gone by.
